What is it about?

Well-trained and motivated research managers are a decisive factor in the competitiveness of Austrian research.

This initiative aims to strengthen the professional profile of research managers and support their strategic development.

In order to attract talented young people to this highly specialised field of work and retain them in the long term, greater visibility and recognition of skills, better career prospects, permeability between science and research management, and suitable training and further education opportunities are necessary.

Goals & Key Activities

  • Strengthen the professional profile of research managers;
  • Development of strategic measures for the (further) advancement of the job profile for research managers;
  • Structured preparation of existing training and continuing education programmes for research managers;
  • National networking and participation in European professionalisation activities.

Who is involved?

  • Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research
  • AURAM – Austrian Universities’ Research Administrators and Managers Network
  • AUFOS – Non-university Research Organisations and Services
  • Stakeholders: Austrian universities, non-university research institutions, universities of applied sciences and research funding organisations.

Expected impact

  • Increasing the visibility and recognition of research managers' skills;
  • (Further) developing adequate, quality-assured training and continuing education programmes;
  • Cross-institutional and, where appropriate, European networking.
