What is it about?

Traditionally, the evaluation of researchers has focused primarily on research publications and associated quantitative indicators, such as a limited set of publication metrics. Other research-related activities – including teaching, leadership, and societal impact – are often considered less important, or are overlooked. Additionally, current evaluation systems emphasise individual performance while neglecting the role of teamwork and collaboration.

Goals & Key Activities

  • Securing a broad commitment to reforming research assessment in Austrian higher education;
  • Implementing monitoring mechanisms to track changes in research assessment practices;
  • Enhancing the quality, performance, and effectiveness of research while increasing the attractiveness of research careers by refining evaluation criteria.

Who is involved?

  • Open Science Austria (OSA)
  • Higher education institutions
  • Research performing organisations
  • Research funding agencies.
