Field of Action 1: Strengthen Framework and Working Conditions for Researchers

A strong research and innovation system needs a supportive environment in which researchers can develop their potential. This is crucial for enabling scientific excellence and retaining talent in Austria and in Europe in the long term. The aim of this field of action is to systematically improve the framework conditions for researchers in all phases and for all functions of their careers. This will be achieved by:

• further developing attractive research careers,
• promoting international and intersectoral mobility,
• reforming evaluation systems beyond traditional indicators,
• systematically reducing gender-specific disadvantages in science, research and innovation, and
• greater recognition of the research management profession to support researchers.
