Field of Action 5: For a responsible and value-based Research Policy

In Action Area 5, we are committed to a responsible, value-based and socially anchored research landscape, as well as a research policy that is designed to meet the needs and challenges of Austrian and European societies. This includes the development and validation of non-animal methods (NAMs) in biomedical research, as well as the targeted promotion and further development of research ethics.

Another key concern is to strengthen trust in science and research as the basis for social progress and innovation. Through transparent, participatory approaches and a stronger connection between science and society, we are creating the conditions for a responsible research policy that is guided by the highest ethical standards and at the same time strengthens trust in science and democracy. The measures in this field of action are closely linked to other areas of the ERA-NAP. For example, the ethical approach to research is highly relevant to the application of Artificial Intelligence, and trust in science should also be strengthened through a transparent S4P system.
