MSCA

02INTRODUCTION

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) fund high-quality research and innovation, providing researchers at all career stages with new knowledge and skills through cross-border mobility and exposure to various sectors and disciplines. By investing in the long-term careers of excellent researchers, MSCA contribute to Europe’s research and innovation capacity.

MSCA also support the development of outstanding doctoral and postdoctoral training programmes, as well as collaborative research projects globally. This has a lasting impact on higher education institutions, research centers, and non-academic organisations. The programme promotes excellence by setting high standards for researcher education and training, in alignment with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the recruitment of researchers.

Key principles underlying the MSCA include:

Excellence: Backing exceptional researchers and fostering superior collaborations, knowledge transfer, methodologies, training, supervision, and career guidance.

Mobility: Facilitating researchers' movement between countries, sectors, and disciplines to gain diverse knowledge, skills, and competences.

Bottom-up and open to the world: Supporting all research and innovation domains and encouraging international cooperation for strategic collaborations.

Excellent recruitment, working conditions, and inclusiveness: Upholding the European Charter for Researchers to develop attractive research careers and to support research excellence across Europe, specifying the roles, responsibilities, and entitlements of researchers and their employers and funders.

Effective supervision and career guidance: Promoting effective supervision, mentoring, and career guidance to create a supportive environment for researchers, with detailed recommendations provided in the Guidelines for MSCA Supervision.

Open science and responsible research and innovation: Encouraging open science practices and responsible research and innovation.

European Green Deal: Supporting research aligned with the European Green Deal, tackling climate and environmental challenges, as outlined in the MSCA Green Charter.

Synergies: Promoting strong connections with the Cohesion policy funds and the Recovery and Resilience Facility.

Through these principles, MSCA aim to cultivate an environment conducive to fostering research excellence, innovation, and sustainable development across Europe and beyond.
