Science Diplomacy

Science Diplomacy features prominently in the EU’s agenda to enhance international cooperation and global partnerships. The Global Approach to Research and Innovation stresses the value of incorporating science and technology into the EU’s foreign and security policies, aiming to better align with partner countries’ interests and leverage the EU’s capacities in research and innovation. The Council has emphasised integrating this approach in the EU’s external actions and recommended that the Commission and the European External Action Service develop a European Science Diplomacy Agenda. Additionally, various recent EU foreign and security policy documents have referenced Science Diplomacy and called for evidence-based policy-making.
