What is it about?

Research and technology infrastructures are important tools for research and development.

The Austrian Research Infrastructure Action Plan 2030, developed as part of the Austrian RTI Strategy 2030 and the Austrian National Action Plan for ERA 2022–2025, is the central instrument for infrastructure development and for establishing an ecosystem of research and technology infrastructures in Austria.

Goals & Key Activities

  • Implementation of the Austrian Research Infrastructure Action Plan 2030 (including evaluation, needs analysis, inventory, collaborative use of infrastructure);
  • AT mapping of the infrastructure ecosystem (including research infrastructure, technology infrastructure, data infrastructure).

Who is involved?

  • RTI Working Group on Research Infrastructure (BMFWF, BMIMI, BKA, BMF, BMWET, BMLUK, FORWIT, FFG)
  • Research institutions and research funding institutions (in accordance with FoFinaG)
  • Universities and universities of applied sciences
  • Non-university research institutions & enterprises
  • Federal States.

Expected impact

  • Access to infrastructure for research and industry;
  • Integrating national infrastructure into major European and international research infrastructure projects;
  • Evidence-based planning and long-term (competitive) funding models;
  • Digitalisation and expansion of (research) data infrastructures and (research) data management.
