EIT selects consortium to lead new EIT Water Innovation Community
On 11 November 2025, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) announced that the Allwaters consortium will spearhead EIT Water, the tenth Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) focused on advancing solutions in Europe’s water, marine, and maritime sectors. EIT Water will tackle urgent issues including water scarcity, drought and floods, ecosystem degradation, and the development of a circular, sustainable blue economy.
Comprising 50 partners from 24 countries and representing industry leaders, universities, research organisations, ports, NGOs, and SMEs, Allwaters aims to accelerate innovation and drive technology adoption across the continent. By connecting experts, entrepreneurs, and learners with the EIT’s extensive innovation network, EIT Water will foster talent development and entrepreneurial education.
EIT Water will establish eight local offices, known as Co-Location Centres (CLCs) providing access to its services and the EIT’s Europe-wide network for innovators, students, and entrepreneurs. The CLCs will be located in:
- Aarhus, Denmark
- Leeds, United Kingdom
- Berlin, Germany
- Antwerp, Belgium
- Vienna, Austria
- Sibenik, Croatia
- Malaga, Spain
- Varna, Bulgaria.
The Austrian partners are BOKU University Vienna, Vienna University of Technology and TIWAG-Tiroler Wasserkraft.
The EIT will provide a startup grant of up to €5 million during the launch phase in 2026, with full operations expected in 2027. Open to all stakeholders, the partnership seeks to attract additional public and private investment, ensuring sustainable impact over its 15-year duration.
