European Court of Auditors presents Work Programme 2026+
The European Court of Auditors (ECA) has published its new work programme which includes 73 audit reports and reviews for the next two years. The EU auditors also plan to produce at least 10 opinions on the European Commission’s proposals for the EU budget for 2028-2034.
The work programme comprises the following topics related to R&I:
- Horizon 2020: The aim is to assess whether the objectives of Horizon 2020 have been achieved and whether the EC has properly evaluated the programme's performance.
- Horizon Europe governance: To assess the governance structures of Horizon Europe, including the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders and decision-making processes within Horizon Europe, in order to identify any bottlenecks or inefficiencies.
- European Innovation Council: The effectiveness of the EIC Fund, including the roles of its key stakeholders and decision-making processes, will be assessed.
- AI and high-performance computing: An analysis will be carried out to assess whether EU-funded investments and initiatives in supercomputing, quantum computing, data centres and other enabling technologies have effectively supported the growth of the European AI industry.
- Leverage achieved by Joint Undertakings: The aim is to assess whether EU funding for the work programmes of Joint Undertakings effectively mobilises contributions from private partners, participating countries and international organisations, and whether this form of co-financing is implemented efficiently.
