EC and Spain hold second Enhanced Dialogue on research and innovation
On 1 and 2 December 2025, the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation and Spain held the second Enhanced Dialogue on research and innovation in Madrid. Juan Cruz Cigudosa, Spain's Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, welcomed Marc Lemaître, Director-General for Research and Innovation This high-level meeting, chaired by Juan Cruz Cigudosa, Spain's Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Universities, and Marc Lemaître, Director-General for Research and Innovation, focused on boosting Spain's R&I landscape and discussing the future of European funding programmes for the next seven-year cycle.
The dialogue focused on key areas crucial to innovation and growth, including advancing research infrastructures, optimising knowledge valorisation, and enhancing research career pathways. The range of topics attracted keen interest from diverse stakeholders, underscoring their relevance and potential impact on Spain's R&I system.
Beyond the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, the meeting was also attended by the Centre for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI), the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA), the Centre for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research (CIEMAT), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).
A highlight of the visit was a tour of Indra, a leading Spanish company at the forefront of air transport, defense, and space innovation, to show the practical application and far-reaching potential of robust R&I partnerships.
