EC and Mexico hold 11th Science & Technology Steering Committee Meeting
The European Commission and Mexico met for the 11th Joint Steering Committee meeting on 21 November 2025 in Mexico City. The meeting was hosted by the Ministry of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation and chaired by Violeta Vázquez-Rojas, Undersecretary of Science and Humanities on the Mexican side and by Ms. Signe Ratso, Deputy Director-General, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation on the EU side.
Both sides welcomed the renewal of the EU-Mexico Agreement for Scientific and Technological Cooperation, which has played a key role for enhancing dialogue and cooperation between the two sides.
They reaffirmed their commitment to developing common principles and suitable framework conditions to create a level playing field for researchers from Mexico and the European Union to cooperate on the basis of trust. They also underlined the importance of establishing a co-funding mechanism, within budgetary possibilities to facilitate the participation of Mexican institutions and researchers in the EU Framework Programmes .
Representatives agreed that an important way to stimulate R&I is to provide researchers with opportunities for skills and career development, within and outside academia, both at doctoral and post-doctoral level as well as to support organisations in the development of excellent international doctoral networks and collaborative research projects under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. Additionally, programmes like Erasmus+ are essential to stimulate the international mobility of students and academic staff and develop capacities and long-lasting international partnerships.
