RIO Country Report for Austria 2015

RIO, the Research and Innovation Observatory of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC), published a series of RIO Country Reports for 2015 in May 2016, including the Country Report for Austria. The Country Reports are published annually and offer an analysis of the R&I system of the respective country, including relevant policies and funding, with a particular focus on topics critical for EU policies. The reports also identify the main challenges of the respective national research and innovation system and assess the policy response.

The main challenges the Country Report has identified for Austria are to improve the effectiveness of public support for private sector innovation, and to increase the supply of private equity, especially venture capital.
