On 7 August 2013, the European Commission published the sixth FP 7 Annual Monitoring Report, which provides statistics of participation in the Seventh Framework Programme from 2007 up to 2012. According to the report, more than 20,000 projects involving 105,000 participants have been awarded funding amounting to around €33 billion in total. Higher education institutions are the main beneficiaries, both in terms of the number of participations (39 %) and funding received (29 %).

In terms of proposals, the overall success rate was 19 per cent. The highest average success rates have been reached in the programmes Research Infrastructures (38 %), Nanosciences (29 %) and Space (28 %). The lowest success rates include the programmes Information and Communication Technologies (15 %), European Research Council Schemes (13 %) and Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (9 %).

The report also indicates the top 50 HEIs, research organisations and industry participants in FP7. There is one Austrian institution among the top 50 academic participants and one among the top 50 research organisations.
