Commission appoints new European Innovation Council Board
The European Commission has appointed 20 members to the renewed European Innovation Council (EIC) Board, including 15 new members and 5 reappointed from the previous Board. The body will be led by the EIC Board President and will bring together high-level figures from across the innovation ecosystem, including academia, entrepreneurship and finance.
The Board’s role is to guide the EIC in becoming Europe’s main instrument for breakthrough innovation and deep-tech scale-ups, maximising impact, steering resources efficiently and supporting Europe’s strategic autonomy. It advises the Commission on the EIC’s strategy, work programme and thematic portfolios, and may also contribute to broader EU innovation policy.
The 20 members were selected from 951 applicants who responded to a call for expressions of interest launched in April 2025. They are appointed in a personal capacity for a two-year term, renewable twice. The renewed Board will hold its first meeting on 29 January 2026. The new Board ensures strong expertise and diversity, with balanced gender representation and members from 16 countries, including seven from Horizon Europe widening countries.
