ISE conference: Strengthening the European Research Area - What does Science need to flourish ?

The Initiative for Science in Europe (ISE) provides a forum for representatives from the European Parliament, the European Commission, member states and stakeholders to discuss with participants from science and learned societies which measures should be taken to strengthen the European Research Area (ERA).

The sessions will focus on topics such as how to involve of scientists in the governance of ERA and organise cross-border research collaboration. Speakers include Helga Nowotny, President of the ERC, Octavio Trias-Quintana, Director for ERA, European Commission, Telemachos Telemachou, Science Attaché of Cyprus, Pär Omling, president of the ESF, Federico Mayor, former director of UNESCO and Iain Mattaj, Director General of EMBL.

The Initiative for Science in Europe is an independent platform of European learned societies and scientific organisations whose aim is to promote mechanisms to support all fields of science at a European level, involve scientists in the design and implementation of European science policies, and to advocate strong independent scientific advice in European policy making.
