The Austrian ERA Symposium 2025: "Towards Europe’s Fifth Freedom" will be held as a full-day, in-person event in Vienna on 17 November 2025.

This year’s symposium offers a unique opportunity to explore and shape the future of the European Research Area (ERA). We are honoured to welcome Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva, who will share first-hand insights into the evolving EU R&I landscape. We will furthermore discuss the path towards the ERA Act – an envisaged landmark initiative introducing legally binding measures to strengthen the ERA.
The symposium will also spotlight priorities of Austria’s next ERA Action Plan 2026–2028 with dedicated workshops.
