02INTRODUCTION
The European Green Deal is the European Commission's strategy for becoming the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050. Supported by investments in green technologies, sustainable solutions and new businesses, the Green Deal is aiming at being a new EU growth strategy. To achieve this, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented a package of measures accompanied by an initial roadmap of key policies including cutting emissions, preserving Europe’s natural environment and investing in research and innovation. Horizon Europe will play a central role by leveraging national public and private investment. Over 35% of Horizon Europe spending will contribute to climate objectives. Partnerships and missions contribute to this ambition.
Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans will be in charge of leading and coordinating the work on the European Green Deal.
