Europatagung 2018

BEYOND THE HORIZON: SHAPING AUSTRIA’S NEXT RTI STRATEGY IN AN EU AND OECD CONTEXT:

This is the motto of this year's "Europatagung", to which you are invited by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research.

When one door closes, another opens. The "Europatagung 2018" moves along the threshold between what is coming to an end and what is about to begin. On 14 December 2018, the Austrian EU Council Presidency is only two weeks away from its conclusion. What have we achieved? But more importantly: Where do research and innovation in Europe stand today? And in which direction should European research and innovation policy develop over the coming years?

The "Europatagung" convenes representatives of the past three and the coming three EU Council Presidencies, in order to discuss these questions with Austrian Federal Minister Heinz Faßmann and the Director-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission. The "Europatagung" concludes the Austrian EU Council Presidency, not without champagne corks popping at the end of the event.

Before that, the OECD will open the door for a preview of the preparation of the future RTI Strategy of the Austrian Federal Government. This year's "Europatagung" will focus on the final report of the OECD Review of the Austrian RTI eco-system. What can we expect in 2019? How should the process for the new RTI Strategy be designed? And which content-related issues would you like to put into focus already?

Both at the plenary of the "Europatagung" and in three "Silent Discos", the OECD will answer questions. In addition, the senior officials responsible for the preparation of the new RTI Strategy ("RTI Task Force") from the Federal Chancellery and the relevant Ministries will engage in dialogue with the participants of the "Europatagung".

The "Europatagung" will again be moderated by Tarek Leitner. With his customary eloquence, Mr. Leitner will welcome you on 14 December and will guide you through a day that is hopefully rich in substance and exciting. Helga Nowotny as Chair of the ERA Council Forum Austria and Heinz Faßmann as Federal Minister for Education, Science and Research and host of the event will invite you with their welcome and opening addresses to appreciate the past and to shape the future. Together.
