EC and Israel Joint Committee meets to discuss further R&I cooperation

The European Commission and Israel met at their 4th EU–Israel Joint Committee Meeting, hosted by the Commission, to discuss the association of Israel to Horizon Europe. The meeting focused on working together in collaborative research under Pillar II of Horizon Europe as well as taking stock of good cooperation under the EIC, ERC, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, and the EIT.
The participants reviewed past achievements, assessed ongoing cooperation, and explored new avenues. The meeting also highlighted how this collaboration aligns with broader regional initiatives such as in the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean, the Partnership on research and innovation (R&I) in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) and Science Diplomacy.
A shared goal is to foster sustainable growth, drive transformative innovation, and address pressing global issues through R&I cooperation. This meeting took place as part of the Horizon Europe Association Agreement which was signed already in 2021.
In Horizon 2020, Israel participated in 1694 projects with 2,105 individual participations, securing a total of €1.3 billion. In Horizon Europe to date, Israel has 909 participations in 747 grants securing €831 million.
