European associations call for robust and dedicated Framework Programme

Some major European associations of research performing and research funding organisations have published a joint statement 'A stronger Europe through research & innovation'. They highlight the need for achieving the vision to “put research and innovation at the heart of our economy” as being essential for addressing Europe’s most pressing challenges. Action at EU level is essential for boosting excellence in research, development and innovation through continent-wide competition and for leveraging the collective strength of all actors—through collaboration—across the research, development and innovation landscape, the authors say. They underline the urgency of the challenge and the need to step up efforts. To achieve these ambitions, the associations call for the following:

1. A robust and dedicated European framework programme for research, development and innovation.
2. A substantially increased budget reserved for research, development and innovation.
3. Simplifying for beneficiaries and ensuring an attractive programme.
