Commission launches public consultation on upcoming EU Bioeconomy Strategy

On 31 March 2025, the European Commission initiated a public consultation concerning the upcoming EU Bioeconomy Strategy. Scheduled for adoption by the end of 2025, the strategy aims to advance innovation and uphold the EU's leadership in the bioeconomy arena. It will introduce measures to unlock the potential of bioeconomy innovations, facilitating their market entry and driving green jobs and economic growth.
The strategy will emphasise the enhancement of circularity and sustainability, contributing to the EU economy's decarbonisation. It aims at creating favourable conditions for bioeconomy startups, entrepreneurs, and innovative business models.
In developing the strategy, alignment with key EU initiatives like the Competitiveness Compass, Clean Industrial Deal, the forthcoming Life Science Strategy, Ocean Pact, and Biotech Act, among others, will be ensured. Consideration will also be given to global competitiveness factors.
Stakeholders are invited to take part in the online consultation. The feedback phase remains open for 12 weeks, ending on 23 June 2025.
