Joint address by Presidents of national academies of sciences calls for prioritising science and education
The Presidents of national academies of sciences of the EU have addressed a message to the candidates for the 2024 European Parliament elections. The address underscores the indispensable role of robust, open, and free science and education for Europe’s future.
The main message of the academies' address is that Europe's future depends on robust, open and free science and education system. The Presidents call for stable investment in R&I and in education, as well as for delivering on the EU's agreed ambition of investing 3% of GDP annually in research and development.
The Presidents urge the EP candidates to reinforce the EU's Framework Programme for R&I and the top-level quality of European education. Given the complex challenges the world is facing, they call on Member States and the European Union institutions to use scientific evidence continuously and wisely in their policymaking.
