EU-South Africa Task Force discusses R&I cooperation
The European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation reports that on 24 April 2024, a meeting of the South Africa-EU Science and Technology Task Force took place. The purpose of the meeting was an exchange on past achievements, current developments and future steps in EU-South Africa cooperation.
The discussion touched on many key-topics for international cooperation such as the multilateral dialogue on values and principles, the impact of Horizon Europe on the South African innovation ecosystem, the relevance of the implementation of the AU-EU Innovation Agenda and partnerships such as the Global Health Joint Undertaking – EDCTP3. A meeting of the Joint Committee is scheduled for November, for which Director General Marc Lemaitre will travel to South Africa.
South Africa is a long-standing partner and the EU's leading research and innovation partner in Africa. It is also the main beneficiary of Horizon Europe funding in Africa, particularly in the areas of health and environmental transition, as well as MSCA Actions for Excellent Science.
