EC appoints new principal adviser and director at EACEA
On 24 January 2024, the European Commission appointed Sophie Beernaerts as the Principal Adviser and Director of the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the Commission. EACEA manages the Commission's funding for education, culture, audiovisual, sport, citizenship, and volunteering. On behalf of the Commission, EACEA is working to foster innovation in these areas, in the spirit of cross-border cooperation and mutual respect. The effective date is to be determined at a later stage.
Ms Beernaerts is currently serving as the acting Director and Head of Department for 'Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps' at EACEA. Previously she assumed various Head of Unit positions, notably with responsibilities for human resources in DG Employment and in the former DG Personnel and Administration. Additionally, she served as a Member of the Cabinet of the former Commissioner for Budget and Administration, Erkki Liikanen, 1998-1999.
