Commission opens online consultation on research security
Openness and international collaboration are key to world-class research. Yet, with growing geopolitical tensions, EU researchers and academics are increasingly confronted with risks when cooperating globally. The EU now wants to support research organisations to address these risks and ensure that research is not misused in a way that affects Europe's security or is unethical.
To this end, the Commission plans a proposal for a Council Recommendation on research security that will set out guiding principles for responsible internationalisation, followed by key policy actions at national and sectoral level to boost research security. It will conclude with listing initiatives at EU level to support the efforts of the Member States and the sector. In addition, this initiative aims at raising awareness and building resilience among EU researchers and academics.
