Seconded National Expert - RTD.A.1 – Chief Economist - R&I Strategy & Foresight

Institution: European Commission
Place of employment: Brussels, Belgium
The application deadline is: 18 Oct. 2019
Unit RTD.A.1 – Chief Economist - R&I Strategy & Foresight - The Unit co-designs and steers, together with other DG RTD Directorates and other DGs, an evidence-based and transformative policy and strategy to increase Europe’s prosperity and well-being through research and innovation (R&I). This approach will be anchored in sustainability and joins up investments with reforms and regulation, giving a clear direction for policy and investment. The Unit produces solid R&I evidence to better understand the changing dynamics of R&I and its impact, to inform policy and help minimise trade-offs between economic, social and environmental objectives and the transgression of planetary boundaries. Under the supervision of an AD staff member, the expert will support and/or lead aspects of integration of foresight into EU R&I policy and strategy. This involves:

  • Monitoring trends and analysing developments in the science, technology and innovation and in related policies at EU and national levels;
  • Contributing to the development of future scenarios and to the signposting of future trends;
  • Contributing to the coordination of foresight activities throughout the Commission, to the analysis of foresight findings and to the drafting of foresight based evidence for R&I policy;
  • Contribute to the launching of foresight studies and consultations, and analysing and disseminating their results in the context of EU policy;
  • Contribute to internal and external communication activities, such as but not limited to newsletters, blogs and conferences;
  • Provide support to the general activities of the unit and other teams mainly Economics and Strategy teams.
ONLY those applications, which are submitted by the Permanent Representation, will be considered. Interested parties are requested to submit their application documents (Europass CV, letter of motivation and employer's consent) by 18 October 2019 by e-mail to sne.bruessel-ov@bmeia.gv.at.
