Council adopts Conclusions on sustainable Europe by 2030
On 10 December 2019, the Council of the European Union adopted a set of Conclusions on the implementation by the EU of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They are considered essential for ending poverty and ensuring a peaceful, healthy and secure life for current and future generations. The conclusions stress the need to accelerate action both within the EU and in other parts of the world in order to fulfil the vision and goals of the 2030 Agenda. They reaffirm that the EU and its Member States will continue to play a leading role in implementing the SDGs while supporting effective multilateralism and a rules-based international order. The Council also encourages Member States to raise their level of ambition and mainstream the 2030 agenda into national planning instruments, policies, strategies and financial frameworks.
