The Guild publishes open letter to Commissioner-designate Mariya Gabriel
On 18 September 2019, the Guild (a network of European research-intensive universities) presented an open letter to Commissioner-designate Mariya Gabriel, which outlines recommendations for the research and education portfolio. The Guild recognises the synergies between research, innovation and education that are reflected in the new structure, but calls for adding ‘research’ to the name of Gabriel's portfolio.
The Guild also asks Commissioner Moedas' successor for an ambitious renewal of the European Research Area that will strengthen Europe’s global standing in science. Other issues touched in the letter are a budget for Horizon Europe of at least €120 billion, and balanced investments for fundamental research and innovation.
