EC adopts 4th State of the Energy Union report

The European Commission (EC) adopted the fourth report on the State of the Energy Union on 9 April 2019. Building a resilient Energy Union is one of the political priorities of the current Juncker Commission. The Energy Union was launched in 2014 and seeks to modernise European energy and climate policy, and to boost the clean energy transition of the European economy in key sectors, in line with the European Union's commitments under the Paris Agreement, while ensuring a socially fair transition. The report takes stock of the progress made towards building the Energy Union, and highlights the issues where further attention is needed. It brings together a series of Commission reports and initiatives related to the Energy Union in an integrated way. The report and is accompanied by two documents showing progress made in renewable energy and energy efficiency. In parallel the Commission is also putting forward a report on the implementation of the strategic action plan on batteries and a communication for more efficient and democratic decision making in EU energy and climate policy.
