Austrian participants have so far already been allocated a total of € 1.1 billion from Horizon 2020. Austrian Federal Ministers Margarete Schramböck, Heinz Faßmann and Norbert Hofer presented the most up-to-date participation figures at a press conference on 21 March 2019, emphasising the progress made through these Horizon 2020 projects, e.g. in the medical field or in technology. They regard the current figures as a further step towards Austria's target of receiving € 1.5 billion from Horizon 2020 overall.
With regard to success rates of participations, Austria is among the top three countries in Horizon 2020 at 17.8%, and well above the average (15.3%). From the total of 2,919 Austrian participations so far, 38% are accounted for by enterprises, and 28% by higher education institutions. Austrian researchers are particularly successful in the ERC (European Research Council; € 223.3 million), ICT (Information and Communication Technologies; € 145.2 million), Transport (€ 123 million) and Energy (€ 106.8 million) programmes.
