AT Presidency conference discusses role of competitive research funding
On the occasion of Austria’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria) hosted a high-profile public event on 22 October 2018, together with the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF). During the event, speakers from all over Europe discussed the role of competitive research funding in science from different angles.
Competitive research funding is key to the success of scientists and research institutions, and central to a robust research environment nationally and internationally. It gives early-career researchers the opportunity to establish independent research groups. Competitive funding moreover stimulates a country’s research environment, and an outstanding national funding system is essential to being a significant presence in the European research community.
