LERU is critical of high oversubscription rate in MSCA
LERU (the League of European Research Universities) looks critically at the record number of applications for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions grants (the most recent MSCA Individual Fellowships call had received a record total of 9,830 proposals). In an interview with Research Europe, LERU Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Katrien Maes states that “When success rates get so low, people feel it becomes a lottery. Then good people turn away from the programme and the quality of the programme goes down”. Dr. Maes also expressed her disappointment at "so low" an MSCA budget proposed by the European Commiccion in its Horizon Europe proposal, a decrease from 8 percent for MSCA in Horizon 2020 to about 7.2 percent in Horizon Europe. LERU would like to see a budget share of at least 10 % for MSCA in Horizon Europe.
