Eurostat: GDP increases by 0.4% in euro area and EU28

Eurostat, the European statistics office, has published its estimate for the second quarter of 2018, according to which GDP rose by 0.4% in both the euro area and the EU28 compared to the previous quarter. This corresponds to an increase of 2.1% in both areas compared to the second quarter of 2017.

Among the EU Member States for which data is available, Malta has the highest increase compared with the previous quarter (+1.9%), followed by Estonia and Romania (both +1.4%). The lowest growth was observed in Denmark, Greece, France and Italy (all +0.2%). Austria's GDP growth rate is 0.5%, thus slightly above the EU average of 0.4%.
