EC's Horizon Magazine looks at global heatwaves and climate change
In the light of recent heatwaves, the European Commission's online Horizon Magazine looks at the pattern of these heatwaves causing record breaking temperatures across the northern hemisphere, in an interview with Peter Stott, professor of detection and attribution of climate change at the University of Exeter, UK. According to Prof. Stott, these heatwaves would not be seen without climate change, in the sense that the odds of a particular heatwave happening in a particular locality change. It is therefore important to focus on what we can do about it rather than whether it’s happening, according to Peter Stott, a change that he already also sees happening in the media.
