In memoriam Fotis Kafatos, ERC founding president
The European Research Council (ERC) has announced the decease of its founding president Fotis Kafatos. Mr. Kafatos was born on 16 April 1040 and passed away on 18 November 2018. Paying tribute to him, the ERC states that "He was a world-class biologist and his contribution to the successful setting up of the ERC has been decisive. With great commitment and stamina he fought with heart and soul for having this new organisation that scientists had been demanding for a long time. He was the first to chair the ERC's governing body, the Scientific Council, from 2006 and, as such, presided over the ERC after its official launch in 2007 until 2010."
