Frank McGovern starts term as new JPI Climate Chair
During its spring meeting (23-24 May 2017), the JPI Climate Governing Board elected Frank McGovern from the Irish Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as the new Chair, from among its members. Frank McGovern is Head of Climate Change Research & Science at EPA and has long-standing experience in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In his vision speech, Frank McGovern highlighted the importance of the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the enhanced role that JPI Climate should play in this challenge via the development of carbon neutrality pathways, for example. The term for the new Chair started on 1 July 2017.
After two years as Chair and two years as Vice-Chair of JPI Climate, Patrick Monfray stepped back from this position on 1 July 2017.
