Harald Mahrer takes over from Reinhold Mitterlehner as Austrian Minister of Science, Research and Economy
Harald Mahrer was sworn in as Austrian Federal Minister of Science, Research and Economy by Austria's Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen on 17 May 2017. Mr. Mahrer was appointed following the resignation of former Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister Reinhold Mitterlehner.
At the hand-over ceremony, Mr. Mahrer emphasised the government's responsibility towards the Republic of Austria, its citizens and its enterprises. He also listed a number of core projects which he intends to pursue actively, including amongst others the financing of university places, and increasing the research premium and funding for the Nationalstiftung (national foundation), all in order to strengthen Austria further as a location for science, research and business and to ensure a successful future for Austria.
The new Minister and former State Secretary also thanked his predecessor, for the confidence he had put in him, and for enabling him to develop his political activities and familiarise himself with many different thematic areas.
