Austrian social scientist presents book on development of ERC
Austrian Social Scientist Thomas König, who had been working with Helga Nowotny during her term as ERC President, has recently published a book about the development of the ERC since its very beginnings. Mr. König, who is now working at the Austrian Institute of Advanced Studies, presented his book "The European Research Council" on 6 April 2017 at the premises of the Austrian Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels, to an audience including numerous ERC staff members. In addition to analysing the creation and development of the ERC, this book critically examines its achievements and its claims. It also explores the implications of the rise of the ERC and the challenges and threats that it faces today, engaging with broader questions concerning the relationship of politics, science, and money at the beginning of the 21st century. The presentation was followed by an open discussion about the EU added-value of the ERC and its potential future role in the European research landscape.
