Commission seeks experts for High Level Group on European Innovation Council
On 29 September 2016 the European Commission published a call for expresions of interest on a potential European Innovation Council. The aim of the Commission's idea of a European Innovation Council is to boost the impact of EU research and innovation programmes by stimulating innovative start ups and SMEs to grow into world-beating businesses. It should focus on support for innovative firms and entrepreneurs with the potential to scale up rapidly to become the game-changers of the future, helping spur growth and new jobs.
ERAC, the European Research Area Committee, stresses in its "Opinion on the idea of a European Innovation Council" of 14 July 2016 that EU added value must be repected and finds that further analyses of EU’s innovation capacity and the need for concerted EU action, as well as thorough evaluation of existing EU-instruments, should form the basis for further developing the concept of an EIC.
The Commission plans to launch a number of pilot actions in 2017 under Horizon 2020. The establishment of the High Level Group is another step towards a potential European Innovation Council. The High Level Group will have up to 12 members who would start work by the end of 2016.
The deadline for applications is 27 October 2016.TOP
