Slovakia takes over the EU Presidency
From 1 July to 31 December 2016 Slovakia is holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union. In the Slovak Presidency programme two pillars are emphasised: a “positive agenda” (e.g. removing barriers between member states) and “sustainable solutions” (focusing on long-term perspective). The four priorities are: 1) an economically strong Europe, 2) developing the modern single market, 3) supporting sustainable migration and asylum policies, and 4) working towards a globally engaged europe.
According to the programme, one of the main topics of the Slovak Presidency in the field of research is the support to young researchers. The Presidency aims to adopt council conclusions on measures to support young researchers with a focus on increasing the attractiveness of scientific careers, encouraging mobility, and investing in human potential in the field of research and development.
