JRC presents new website on European alien species
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has presented the relaunched new website of its European Alien Species Information Network (EASIN). The new website aims to provide a “one-stop-shop” for information on alien species in Europe.
EASIN is an initiative of the JRC. It was established upon the recognition of the increasingly serious threat posed by alien species to the environment and the economy in Europe. The network’s innovative tools enable easy access to data and information on alien species in Europe from several sources worldwide, with the aim of assisting policy makers and scientists in their efforts to tackle invasions of alien species. Furthermore, EASIN places the JRC in the position of addressing scientific questions related to the implementation of European policies on alien species. In addition, EASIN is one of the information systems that support Member States in the implementation of the EU Regulation on Invasive Alien Species, which came into force on 1 January 2015.
The website will be regularly updated. User feedback is welcome and will be used to help improve the navigation and functionalities of the EASIN platform.
