ITRE holds exchange of views on cybersecurity with ENISA
On 21 April 2016, the European Parliament's ITRE (Industry, Research and Energy) Committee held an exchange of views on cybersecurity in the EU, following the Commission's announcement of the new digitisation strategy (including the European Science Cloud Initiative).
Mr. Udo Helmbrecht, Executive Director of ENISA (the EU Agency for Network and Information Security) spoke at the event about the developments in the digital single environment, the importance of aligning industry with innovative research initiatives and the role of ENISA in the process. Mr. Hembrecht welcomed the Commission's initiatives and said he believed ENISA would have an important role in "promoting a culture of network and information security in Europe, particularly with the increasing uptake of cloud, IoT, standards, big data, and e-government”. In the past, ENISA has repeatedly called for security by design and sees supporting activities required in the use of appropriate cybersecurity standards.
