SAM HLG publishes minutes of second meeting
The High Level Group (HLG) of the European Commission's Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) held its second meeting on 17 March 2016. The minutes of this meeting have now been published on the SAM Website.
The HLG has agreed to set up two sub-groups with rapporteurs for the two topics it is currently dealing with ("Closing the gap between light duty vehicle real-world CO2 emissions and laboratory testing", and "Cybersecurity", focussing on the question of Digital Identities for a Digital Single Market). The sub-groups are gathering evidence on their respective topics, and will start further consultations with the scientific community, including European academies, as well as organise workshops with invited experts in the field. The HLG's CO2 Opinion will be delivered in October 2016, the Opinion on cybersecurity in early 2017.
Relations between SAM and EU academies were also discussed, with all participants agreeing on the importance of this cooperation for delivering scientific input to EU policy-making processes. The HLG were informed about the nomination of national science advisors by Member States. A meeting with this network of science advisors is envisaged.
The next HLG meeting will take place in Manchester on 25 July 2016, in conjunction with the 2016 European Science Open Forum (ESOF) meeting.
