Eurostat: 2014 GDP per capita below half of EU average in twenty-one regions

Eurostat, the European Statistics Office, has published GDP figures for 2014 which show that there are still considerable differences between the regions of Europe. Regional GDP per capita, expressed in terms of purchasing power standards, ranged from 30% of the European Union (EU) average in the Bulgarian region of Severozapaden, to 539% of the average in Inner London - West in the United Kingdom. Twenty-one regions were found to be below half the EU average, while five regions have a GDP per capita of more than twice the EU average.
