Societal role of universities is focus of EUA Work Programme for 2016-17
The European University Association (EUA) Council approved the Association’s 2016-2017 work programme at its meeting on 29 January 2016. The current work programme focuses on strengthening the societal role of universities, and to ensure that this role is recognised by policy makers and society. The EUA has therefore committed itself to work over the next two years to promote and reinforce universities as key societal actors responding to the grand societal challenges, and seek to increase understanding and trust between universities and their stakeholders.
The EUA also strives to ensure "that the voice of universities is heard in European level policy debates". Amongst other issues, this policy agenda includes EUA contributions to the mid-term review of Erasmus+ and Horizon 2020, for which the EUA has already started a member consultation, as well as contributions to policy and practice developments in the fields of Open Science and Open Access, for which the EUA has recently released a roadmap.
