SAM is holding first meeting in Brussels
The High Level Group of the new Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) of the European Commission is holding its first meeting today, 29 January 2016.
On the meeting's agenda are the nomination of the Chair and Deputy Chair, a discussion of the Group's working methods, as well as preliminary discussions on both the procedure for the identification of topics upon which the Group will provide advice, and on potential topics themselves.
The meeting minutes and supporting documents will be published by the European Commission on the SAM Website.
The new Scientific Advice Mechanism was set up as announced by EC President Juncker in May 2015, in order to support the Commission with high quality, timely and independent scientific advice for its policy-making activities. The High Level Group of scientific advisors was officially set up on 10 November 2015. The seven members of the High Level Group were selected following an open call for nominations and the recommendations of an independent identification committee.
