EU research ministers discuss FP7 ex-post evaluation and R&I friendly regulation
On 27 January 2016, the Dutch Presidency hosted an informal meeting of the Research ministers (Council Competitiveness). The main topics of discussion were the recommendations made by the experts who conducted the FP 7 Ex Post Evaluation (presented by Louise O. Fresco) and the recently published Commission Staff Working Document on Research and Innovation Friendly Regulation. Commissioner Carlos Moedas underlined the importance of innovation-friendly regulation and promoted the idea of introducing the “innovation principle” in the legislative process as well as the idea of creating a “European Innovation Council”. Furthermore, so-called “Innovation Deals” shall help entrepreneurs in gaining legal certainty for their ideas and shall enhance the European potential for market-creating innovation.
On the eve of the event the Ministers met Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and philanthropist, who gave a speech on current projects funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (http://www.gatesfoundation.org/en).
