EARTO publishes study on impact of RTOs and R&I investments
On 14 January 2016, EARTO presented its new publication “Economic Footprint Study: Impact of 9 European RTOs in 2014”. The study was presented at an event where EARTO members discussed the impact of RTOs and R&I investments with around 90 EU Institutions representatives and other R&I stakeholders.
The 9 RTOs whose data for 2014 were analysed represent 1/3 of EARTO members in terms of employees and turnover: CEA, DTI, Fraunhofer, imec, SINTEF, SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden, Tecnalia, TNO, and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
The main findings of the study are that, in 2014, the aggregated effects of the core-activities as well as activities generated through the bilateral contracts and the spin-offs of these 9 RTOs, resulted in:
- 225.900 jobs created in the European economy,
- €29.3 billion of turnover generated in the European economy,
- €14.0 billion of value added to the European economy,
- €5.2 billion fiscal and parafiscal returns towards governments.
