Vice-Chancellor Mitterlehner discusses Austria's role in the Energy Union with Commissioner Šefčovič
Europen Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič paid a visit to Vienna and met with Vice-Chancellor Reinhold Mitterlehner on Monday, 21 September 2015, in order to discuss the European Energy Union. Mr. Šefčovič and Mr. Mitterlehner are both responsible for the Energy Union in their portfolio as Commissioner and Austrian Federal Minister respectively. They discussed the challenges and opportunities of the Energy Union for Austria in particular.
After the meeting, Mr. Mitterlehner said that the Energy Union should bring security of supply, competition and solidarity to European energy policy, and added that Austria would contribute its strengths to all relevant issues.
The Energy Union is one of the key political priorities of the Juncker Commission. Research and innovation is one of the five dimensions which the Energy Union addresses (SET Plan). The others are energy security, the single market for energy, moderating the demand for energy, and energy efficiency, and the decarbonisation of the economy.
