EC selects 30 social innovation projects
The European Commission’s DG Growth has announced that it has received more than 1,400 applications from over 40 countries in the 2015 edition of the European Social Innovation Competition. 30 out of these applications have now been selected as semi-finalists.
This year’s competition was for “New Ways to Grow”, looking for projects with a potential to increase growth, while ensuring social progress for citizens, government and enterprises at the same time. The projects highlight social issues that are major concerns for many Europeans, such as inclusion, education and youth, health and ageing, climate change, food waste, and the environment. In September 2015, ten finalists will be selected by a jury at the social innovation academy event in Vienna. The three best proposals out of these ten will each receive € 50,000 to kick-start their project at the awards ceremony in Brussels in November 2015.
